Marina and the Prince Above the Waves
A brave little mermaid named Marina falls in love with a prince and makes a big wish to walk on land and be with him.
Deep down in the sparkly blue ocean, where sunbeams danced through the water like ribbons of gold, lived a little mermaid named Marina.

She had the most beautiful voice in all the sea and a shimmery green tail that flashed when she swam.
Marina loved to collect treasures from sunken ships. But what she loved MOST was swimming up, up, up to peek at the world above the waves. "Tell me about people!" she'd beg her grandmother. "Do they sing? Do they dance?"
"Oh yes," Grandmother would say with a smile. "But mermaids belong in the sea, dear one."
On Marina's fifth birthday, she was finally allowed to swim all the way to the surface by herself. WHOOSH! Up she went! The sky was painted pink and orange, and there was a big ship with flags flapping in the wind. Music floated across the water.
Marina peeked over the waves. On the ship, people were having a party! And there, laughing and dancing, was a prince with kind eyes and a wonderful smile. Marina's heart went pitter-pat.
Suddenly—CRACK! BOOM!—lightning split the sky! The storm tossed the ship like a toy. SPLASH! The prince fell into the churning waves!
Marina dove deep and caught him. She was strong and brave! She swam and swam, pulling him safely to shore.

She sang to him softly until his eyes fluttered open. But when she heard people coming, she had to hide behind the rocks. The prince never saw who saved him.
Back home, Marina couldn't stop thinking about the prince. "I wish I could walk on land," she whispered. "I wish I could dance with him."
She knew only one person could help—the Sea Witch, who lived in a dark cave surrounded by swirling shadows.
"I can give you legs," the Sea Witch hissed, her eyes glowing. "But it will hurt like walking on sharp stones. And you must give me your beautiful voice. No more singing! If the prince marries someone else, you'll turn into sea foam and disappear forever."
Marina was scared, but she was also very brave. She nodded yes.
The Sea Witch's potion bubbled and popped. Marina drank it down. OW! OW! OW! Her tail split into two legs. It hurt so much! But she didn't cry.
The prince found her on the beach the next morning. Even without her voice, her eyes were so kind and bright that he took her to his castle. Marina learned to walk and dance, even though every step felt like stepping on pebbles. She smiled through it all.
The prince loved having Marina near. They flew kites, fed the swans, and watched sunsets together. But he didn't know she was the one who saved him. He thought a different princess had rescued him—the one who found him on the beach.
"I'm going to marry her," the prince told Marina sadly. He thought Marina was his friend, not knowing she loved him with her whole heart.
Marina's sisters burst from the waves that night. "We gave our long hair to the Sea Witch!" they cried. "She gave us this magic knife. If you use it before sunrise, you can become a mermaid again and come home!"
Marina held the knife. She looked at the prince sleeping peacefully. She loved him so much... but she loved him too much to hurt him.
As the sun painted the sky pink and gold, Marina dropped the knife into the sea. She felt herself turning into sea foam, light as air, floating up, up, up.
But something magical happened! Warm, glowing spirits surrounded her. "You were so kind and brave," they whispered. "You chose love over everything. Now you'll become a daughter of the air, helping children all over the world!"
Marina felt light and free and happy. She could see the whole wide world now—the ocean she'd loved and the land she'd dreamed of. And even though things didn't turn out the way she'd planned, her brave and loving heart had earned her something even more wonderful.
She floated on the wind, ready for new adventures, knowing that real love means being brave, being kind, and always, always being true to yourself.
